Meetings of minds

So, today's topic is meeting and event tools.

This is not an area I did much exploring in via the tools recommended from the Library 2.1 blog.  I have used Google Calender in the past, at the time I did not see a need to use it for my personal appointments but it was used to co-ordinate times for online gaming events among a group of my friends. As a way of gathering people in game and letting us work around timezones and work schedules it proved its value, I just did not see its worth for me personally, especially as at the time it was a fairly new tool and there were not many people to share calenders with.

I must admit I have been won over more completely by online Calenders since I last played with the Google calender.  Now I cannot live without my Outlook calender.  To be able to see my schedule and other peoples at a glance, set myself reminders, see if people are around for future meetings, or where they may be right now if I need to ask them something definately makes life easier, but I am sure I am preaching to the converted.

Regarding event planning tools - I have used Eventbrite as a consumer, as it seems to be very successfully used to attend SLNSW events, if I had an event organised I could imagine trying it, although in general more informal things such as Facebook groups with event invitations appeal to me for hobby events as you can include more information and pictures

On the whole I can see this area, meetings and event organisation, becoming more important to me as I progress in my life and career, and I am glad I have at least dabbled already.
